Systemware Innovation completes nuclear control computer test facility
Toronto, MAY 31, 2009
Systemware Innovation (SWI) has successfully completed the development of a test facility, to allow any changes to the control computer code to be tested in a high fidelity environment. Building on its experience in developing other simulators for the Canadian Nuclear industry, SWI was able to complete the project in the expected timeframe, allowing for more secure maintenance of the highly complex control computer code.
“We have brought a lot of key background knowledge to bear in this project, providing a solution that has made the users very happy,” said Jeff McDougall, VP Professional Services. “In this case, our familiarity with the CANDU control computers has allowed us to ensure we meet the ultimate needs of system maintainers.”
In this case, the final solution included the creation of an IBM 1800 Virtual machine, a graphical user interface, a scripting capability, and the integration of a reactor simulator. The result is a system that will allow maintainers to test their modified control computer code in an environment designed to support proper debugging, static testing, and dynamic testing with the simulator.
“I am very pleased with the high level of acceptance this solution has received from the technical staff. They report that they are seeing immediate efficiency gains and confidence in their changes,” remarked Project Manager Mark Peters.
