Microsoft’s Cortana Intelligence Suite at the TechConnex Big Data Meeting

Microsoft Black Belt Alex Fernandes presented at the most recent TechConnex Big Data Peer Group hosted by SWI. Alex, a Data Solutions Architect, presented an overview of the various components of the Microsoft Azure Cortana Intelligence Suite. The suite is a complete set of well integrated cloud services offered in the Microsoft Azure platform which includes the components that organizations require to implement a Big Data or Advanced Analytics solution.

These components include:

      • Information Management
        This layer is responsible for gathering the information from various sources into a central store for analysis.
        o Data Factory is used for batch data loads
        o Event IoT Hubs collect streaming analytics for IoT and other streaming sources
      • Storage
        In this layer the data is collected so it is available for reporting and analysis. Microsoft Azure supports storing data in the cloud in
        o Relational Data Storage
        o Big Data HDFS compliant storage called Data Lake Store
      • Advanced Analytics
        Azure provides multiple options for advanced analytics that cover all the analytics needs of the organization from the most basic to the most advanced
        o Azure NL ML is a graphical drag and drop interface for analytics geared to business users.
        o HDInsight R-Server allows running R code at scale
        o HDInsight Spark allows leveraging Apache Spark ML for analytics at the petabyte scale
        o Stream Analytics allow analytics of stream data on the fly
      • And much more…
        o Visualization with Power BI, Cognitive services (Vison recognition, Speech/Language recognition etc.). The Cortana Intelligence Suite is growing every day with new features and enhancements!
